Kyle Larson’s strong early-Chase pace has rolled into Dover International Speedway as he led first practice for Sunday’s Citizen Soldier 400.
Larson’s lap of 21.742 seconds held off a pair of Joe Gibbs Racing drivers – Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth – who respectively turned in laps of 21.802 and 21.848 seconds.
From there, Ryan Newman, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard, Austin Dillon and Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the top-10 of the session standings.
Chase drivers to place outside of the top-10 were Kurt Busch in 11th, Joey Logano in 12th, Jamie McMurray in 16th, Brad Keselowski in 19th, Kevin Harvick in 20th, Tony Stewart in 24th, Kyle Busch in 28th and Chris Buescher in 31st.
Kyle Busch was the fastest driver across a run of 10 laps with an average speed of 159.336 miles per hour. Three other drivers made a run of 10 or more consecutive laps.
The driver of the No. 18 M&Ms Core Toyota also ran the most laps of the session with 60 as Reed Sorenson completed the fewest with five.
Next for the 4o-car Sprint Cup Series field at Dover will be qualifying at 3:40 p.m ET/2:40 p.m CT.
