Frank Kimmel Returning to ARCA for Salem Speedway’s Fall Classicby Kyle Pokrefky August 18, 2016 0 comments
ARCA Racing Series legend Frank Kimmel has lined up a ride for this year’s Fall Classic at Salem Speedway with the 10-time series champion set to drive for Cunningham Motorsports.
The 80-time race winner will pilot the team’s No. 22 entry, partnering alongside of the current 2016 points leader, Chase Briscoe, for what is to be the 100th ARCA race held at the storied half-mile oval.
Billed as a ‘throwback’ weekend due to the landmark race to be held on Saturday, September 10th, Kimmel’s inclusion in the Fall Classic is expected to be accompanied by a retro paint scheme for the 200-lap event.
“I am really excited to have the chance to get back to the track, especially at Salem Speedway, my home track,” Kimmel said. “There are so many great aspects of this opportunity – the 100th race at Salem, teaming up with Cunningham Motorsports, who will give me a great chance at another Salem checkered flag and the chance to get back in a Ford.”
The Jeffersonville, Ind. native is certainly no stranger to the half-mile chewed up oval in southern Indiana. In 43 career starts at his hometown track, Kimmel has nine wins, 29 top-fives and 35 top-10s as well as eight pole awards to his credit.
Cunningham Motorsports also have quite the accomplished record at the track as well with four wins coming with drivers Dakoda Armstrong, Alex Bowman and Tom Hessert since 2010.
“Having the greatest driver in the history of the ARCA Series driving for Cunningham at the 100th Salem race is awesome,” Cunningham’s Kerry Scherer stated. “It is an honor to have Frank Kimmel drive for us at a track where he has so much success.”
