DARLINGTON, S.C. – The Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association will hold a party to kick off Race Week activities downtown from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 26, at historic Liberty Lane sponsored by South of Pearl, Darlington Country Club, Cumulus Broadcasting, Community Broadcasters, Carolina Bank, H&S Floors & Furnishings, and First Citizens Bank.
This dressy event will feature live music by Speak Easy Band of Florence, heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by local businesses, adult beverages, and more! (Think autographs!)
Two-time NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series National Champion Hal Goodson will attend with his race car. A former NASCAR XFINITY Series drive, Hal won the Pee Dee Coastal Super Truck Series last season, is a multi-time Super Truck track champion at Dillon Motor Speedway, and is also a two-time NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series champion, winning the title in 1995 and 1997.
Also on hand will be his son Hayes Goodson, who drives the Florence-Darlington Technical College sponsored No. 16 Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model and the No. 13 Super Truck in the Pee Dee Coastal Super Truck Series. So far this season, Hayes has accumulated two wins, three poles, five top-5 finishes and seven top-10 finishes in only seven starts this season in the Super Truck.
Tickets are $50 and are limited to 200 guests. Tickets will include a collectable lanyard and numbered ticket. Must be 21 and older to attend. Tickets will be available in August at City Hall, 400 Pearl St.
The venue features a mural by Columbia, S.C., artist Blue Sky and the hand prints of all the winners of the Southern 500 Darlington race from 1950 to 2000. Blue Sky will be on hand for the event as well.

Proceeds with benefit the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association and its projects to improve the business climate in Darlington. Past projects include streetscaping and parking lots downtown, a sign and building improvement grant, free downtown concerts, free business seminars, the Build Up Darlington program, the Veteran’s Memorial, Market on Darlington Square, and more.
