SunnyD Extends Partnership With Roush Fenway Racing and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.by Camille Jones July 22, 2016 0 comments
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Roush Fenway Racing announced on Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway that the organization has signed a multi-year sponsorship extension with Sunny Delight to remain on the No. 17 Ford Fusion, driven by Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
The No. 17 SunnyD Ford was already scheduled to carry the bright orange and yellow paint scheme in Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which made the news even more exciting for the team.
“It’s super ‘gnarly’ to be here and announce this at such a big weekend,” Stenhouse, Jr. said. “We’ve got SunnyD on the car this weekend and it’s a great place to announce things like this.”
The creative sponsor has used social media contests and video entries to rally fans around the team and create an interactive relationship with the NASCAR fan base. SunnyD was previously known for iconic commercials, which led the Roush Fenway Racing team to put their driver’s acting skills to work.
“When we first started doing things like photo shoots and stuff like that for this year and the SunnyD partnership, we started having a lot of fun with it,” Stenhouse said. “I definitely need to work on my acting skills, and it was a lot of fun remaking the old commercials. I think a lot of the fans have had a lot of fun with it. People send me stuff all the time of them trying to redo some of the parts of the commercial.
“We have a ‘Share a SunnyD’ hashtag going right now. Fans are recreating that commercial similar to what we did. It’s been a great partnership, really fun. It’d be nice to get it into Victory Lane so that we can drink a SunnyD in Victory Lane. It’d be a nice way to start this weekend after this announcement.”
As for the remaining races in 2016, SunnyD will serve as the primary sponsor for Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 17 team for the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 8 and the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on November 12.
This is the second multi-year sponsorship extension that Roush Fenway Racing has announced for the Stenhouse Jr. The first came earlier this year in May when Fastenal announced they would continue their partnership with the team as a primary sponsor for the No. 17 through the 2017 season and beyond.
Sponsors investing in the future of the team gets the entire organization pumped up. Stenhouse, Jr. added, “It’s a bonus to be able to announce this for several years. Everyone at the shop gets excited and so does our fan base.”
The No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing team currently sits 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship standings with two top-five and four top-10 finishes.
