NEWTON, Ia. — Erik Jones scored the pole for the American Ethanol E15 250 at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, heading a top-three lockout for Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR XFINITY Series qualifying.
Jones’s lap of 23.204 seconds scored the Byron, Mich. native his sixth pole of the season and the ninth of his XFINITY Series career.
Teammates Daniel Suarez and Sam Hornish Jr. slotted in behind the driver of the No. 20 Toyota on the starting grid with respective times of 23.267 and 23.345 seconds.
Justin Allgaier, Elliott Sadler, Ben Kennedy, Brad Keselowski, Ty Dillon, Alex Bowman and Brandon Jones rounded out the top-10 of the final qualifying round’s results.
Erik Jones swept all three round of qualifying on Saturday, posting a lap of 23.063 seconds to set the benchmark in the opening 20-minute round.
Drivers to find themselves eliminated from pole contention following the opening round included Joey Gase, Timmy Hill, Tyler Young, Travis Kvapil and Jeff Green.
The driver of the No. 20 Freightliner Toyota then went on to complete a lap of 23.131 seconds in the second round of qualifying.
The second 15-minute round further eliminated Drew Herring, Ryan Sieg, Ross Chastain, Jeremy Clements, J.J. Yeley, Ryan Preece and Brennan Poole, among others, from pole contention.
Claire Decker was the lone driver to fail to qualify for tomorrow’s 250-lap race.
The American Ethanol E15 250 will get underway at 1:00 p.m ET/12:00 p.m CT tomorrow with live coverage being provided by FOX Sports 1 and MRN.
