Crew Chief Chad Johnston Suspended for FireKeepers Casino 400by Kyle Pokrefky June 8, 2016 0 comments
NASCAR’s post-race lugnut check from Monday’s Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400 has resulted in another crew chief suspension with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Chad Johnston being sidelined for the upcoming race weekend.
Johnston, crew chief for third-year driver Kyle Larson, will not serve as crew chief of the No. 42 Target Chevrolet for Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Johnston’s suspension makes for the fourth suspension by NASCAR for a violation of the sanctioning body’s new rule regarding the securing of all five lugnuts on a tire.
In previous weeks, Randall Burnett, Tony Gibson and Adam Stevens, respective crew chiefs for A.J. Allmendinger, Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch were also suspended in past weeks for lugnut violations.
Stevens was suspended following the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team’s victory at Kansas Speedway while Burnett and Gibson were suspended for this past weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway.
Gibson’s No. 41 team was the victor of the weekend with Kurt Busch going to victory lane with substitute crew chief Johnny Klausmeier.
An interim crew chief for Larson is expected to be announced in the coming days.
