Carl Edwards scored his third Coors Light Pole Award of the Sprint Cup season on Saturday and will lead the field to green in Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.
The driver of the No. 19 Stanley Tools Toyota earned his first career Sonoma pole with a lap of 74.799 seconds.
The 2014 Toyota/Save Mart 350 winner will be joined on the front row by A.J. Allmendinger with Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Paul Menard and Tony Stewart set to complete the top-10 of the starting grid.
Edwards completed a clean sweep of both qualifying rounds in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota as he ran a lap of 74.392 seconds in round one to take the top spot from Truex Jr.
“I can’t say enough about my guys, this car is fast,” Edwards said of his 19th career pole. “Our Stanley Toyota is good. We’re out here in Toyota country… It’s cool to have a Toyota on the pole for the Toyota/Save Mart 350…
“This place is so much fun, it’s so cool. After that first lap I sat here and thought ‘Man, I’m really going to screw up this second one’ because that first one was really good. But, I’m glad we hung on to the pole. I’m really excited.”
Notable qualifiers in the field were Danica Patrick in 11th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 13th, Jimmie Johnson in 15th, Kevin Harvick in 25th, Patrick Carpentier in 34th and Dylan Lupton, who is making his Sprint Cup debut, in 38th.
The No. 55 entry of Cody Ware was the lone car to be sent home from Sonoma following the completion of qualifying.
The Toyota/Save Mart 350 will get underway at 3:00 p.m ET/12:00 p.m PT on Sunday with live coverage being provided by FOX Sports 1 and PRN.
