Sam Yarborough Claims First Dillon Motor Speedway Victoryby Press Release April 27, 2016 0 comments
Strom Altman, last year’s champion at Florence Motor Speedway, used the outside groove to wrestle the lead from Yarborough on the race’s second lap. It took Yarborough 39 laps to recapture the top spot and cruise to victory in the 75-lap feature. Altman lost the handle on his machine, sliding through the field in the waning laps to finish sixth. Andrew Thomas, a winner at Dillon last year, finished second. A.J. Walsh scored an impressive third place in his first season of late model competition. Averitt Lucas and Archie Adams Jr. rounded out the top five in the 16-car field.
In the Charger division, Michael Williamson climbed into his car for the first time since a recent surgery and is back to winning form. The 2014 Dillon track champion led every lap of his feature event, crossing the finish line ahead of last season’s champion, Brian Owens. Ben Watford finished third, followed by Ricky Locklair and Matt Rogers.
Gary Ledbetter captured his first win of the season in the track’s popular street stock division. Ledbetter used a thrilling inside pass on Ricky Locklair Jr. to capture the lead early in the race. The second place battle between Locklair and Jeff Melton thrilled fans. Ultimately Melton’s Mustang would finish second, followed by Locklair, Justin Altman and Brent Blalock.
Jason Beck was victorious in the pure stock four cylinder race. He was followed by Randy Montgomery, Larry McGuire, Leon Vincent and Josh Hanna.
The visiting Allison Legacy Series took to the track for the first time this season. Justin Taylor, Tim Niesen, Seth Henry, Kayla Lyons and Heath Phillips were the top-five finishers.
