Ricky Stenhouse Jr’s Crew Chief Suspended for Talladegaby Kyle Pokrefky April 27, 2016 0 comments
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will enter this weekend’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway without his regular crew chief on top of his pit box.
Nick Sandler, crew chief of the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, will sit out of the race weekend after being suspended for a P3 penalty assessed out of opening day inspection for last weekend’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
Sandler’s punishment is suspension from all NASCAR points-paying events through May 4th, a monetary fine of $20,000 and a place on NASCAR’s probation list through December 31st.
The No. 17 car was found in violation of section 20.13.l-1.d, a section of the NASCAR Rulebook that deals with regulations regarding the steering wheel.
Also listed on NASCAR’s penalty report from Richmond were the Nos. 14 and 48 Sprint Cup teams.
The No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team failed pre-race template inspection twice while the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing team failed laser inspection twice during pre-race inspection.
Both teams received written warnings for their inspection issues and will not lose any practice time for this weekend’s race at Talladega.
