David Starr Released from TriStar Motorsportsby Kyle Pokrefky April 27, 2016 0 comments
TriStar Motorsports has announced that its regular driver of its No. 44 Toyota in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, David Starr, has been released from his contract with the team.
Starr competed in the first seven races of the XFINITY season this year and scored a best finish of 17th at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The Houston native drove for TriStar in the entirety of the 2015 season and recorded one top-10 finish – a sixth-place finish in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
In his place in the No. 44 machine this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway will be J.J. Yeley, who also raced his way to a 12th-place finish in the same car one weekend ago at Richmond International Raceway.
TriStar’s team owner, Mark Smith, said the change was to help improve the overall TriStar organization.
Through eight races this season, the No. 44 entry is the highest TriStar entry in the XFINITY Series owners standings – currently sitting in the 23rd position in points.
“We have made significant changes in an effort to improve our overall program,” Smith said. “With our commitment to our sponsor, we felt that an immediate change was necessary.
“We have every confidence in the team we have assembled and we will continue to pursue our competitive goals. We wish David all the best in his career and we will announce further plans as they are confirmed.”
TriStar Motorsports will compete in this weekend’s Sparks Energy 300 with Yeley, Jeff Green in the No. 10 Toyota and Benny Gordon in the No. 14 Toyota.
