Todd Gilliland Wins Third NASCAR K&N Pro Series Race In A Row

IRWINDALE, Calif. – Todd Gilliland piloted the Bill McAnally Racing No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota to victory in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season opener at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday night.

Gilliland, who is only 15 years old, has now won every race he has competed in while in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. He won his debut at Phoenix International Raceway back in November of 2015, and this year, he won the East season opener at New Smyrna Speedway. On Saturday, the third generation driver started on the pole and led 33 laps en route to the victory in the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150.

“It was a great race,” Gilliland said. “I can’t thank my spotter, Jason Hedlesky and my crew chief, Chris Lawson enough. They definitely kept me calm. They kept me in the position that I needed to be in at all times. Sometimes it was hard looking out-front and watching them race two and three wide because you always want to be up there with them going for the lead, but we knew coming into this race that you couldn’t lead the whole race.”

After starting on the pole, Gilliland was passed by Gracin Raz on lap 6. Raz was then challenged by 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, Chris Eggleston for the race lead. Egglegston was able to get by Raz but only for two laps before being overtaken. Ryan Partridge led the next 33 laps before being passed by Gilliland on lap 123. Gilliland led the remaining laps of the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150.

Finishing second was Ryan Partridge, who started third. Eggleston, Noah Gragson and Jonny Borneman rounded out the top-five. Riley Herbst finished sixth, followed by Hannah Newhouse, Julia Landauer, Cole Rouse and Trevor Huddleston.

Throughout the night, there were five lead changes among four drivers. Raz led 82 laps, the most of any driver on Saturday. The race also saw seven cautions during the 150-lap event.

Up next for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Kern County Raceway Park on Saturday, April 2.
