Honda’s Civic Coupe Will Compete During The 2016 Red Bull GRC Seasonby Benjamin Sanders March 24, 2016 0 comments
A new manufacturer is entering into the close quarters racing of Red Bull Global Rallycross in 2016. It was announced on Tuesday that Honda and its turbocharged Civic Coupe will contest the entire 12-round schedule with multiple championship winning team, Olsbergs MSE (OMSE) at the helm.
These Supercars will be driven by 2014 champion, Joni Wiman and 2015 race winner, Sebastien Eriksson, who have the pedigree and the talent to bring Honda to the forefront in their new racing endeavor. The drivers will have to be ready to compete with the insanely quick Andretti Volkswagens, the large contingent of Ford Fiestas and the improving Subaru’s right off the starting line.
The Honda Civic Coupe and Red Bull GRC seem to be a perfect partnership with the Civics appeal to the younger demographic and the short, fast, action packed racing format of rallycross.
The Civics competitive debut will be on May 21-22 at Wild Horse Motorsports Park in Arizona. Honda has a pedigree for winning in North American motorsports and will expect to be on the podium early in the season.
As for Red Bull GRC, the introduction of a new manufacturer shows the strength and popularity of the action packed racing series and opens the door for more large manufacturers to enter in the future.
