MARYVILLE, Tenn. – After surviving a strong challenge mid-race on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway, Scott Bloomquist came out on top and collected the $15,000 check after winning the 3rd Annual Tennessee Tipoff Classic.

In taking the win, the Mooresburg, Tennessee native collected his first-career Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series victory. Bloomquist and pole sitter, Randy Weaver, traded the lead multiple times throughout the 75-lap race. Bloomquist took the lead for good on lap 38 after a restart and ran away from the field, winning by 8.5 seconds.

Weaver finished second, followed by Mike Marlar in third, Darrell Lanigan in fourth and Team Dillon Racing ace, Dale McDowell rounding out the top-five.

There were only three cautions throughout the night that slowed the event. On lap 38, an inadvertent caution came out. The second caution of the night came out on lap 58 after Tommy Kerr stopped in Turn 4, and the final yellow flew on lap 39 when Robby Moses slowed on the front straightaway with a right-front flat tire.

The next Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil events are on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 at Senoia Raceway. The purse will be $4,000-to-win and $6,000-to-win respectively.

Also on tap over the weekend were the Street Stocks who ran a 20-lap feature prior to the Old Man’s Garage Tennessee Tipoff feature. Brad Davis set the quick time in qualifying with a lap of 19.419 seconds. Joining him in the dash race was Robbie Comer, Pete Wright and Jason Savage. Comer won the dash to earn the pole for the feature event.

Davis, who only led the first lap of the 20-lap feature found trouble on lap 2. His car slipped high on the track in Turn 1 and spun into the outside wall.

Once in the lead, Comer ran away from the field despite another caution flag just past halfway point. After the restart, Comer regained command of the race and led the rest of the way. Rounding out the top-five was Colby Taylor, Wesley Lester, Charles Bates and Ty Crisp.
