2016 Sprint Unlimited Practice Results And Starting Lineup

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The off-season is over, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series hit the high banks of Daytona International Speedway for two Sprint Unlimited practice sessions on Friday afternoon.

First Practice

Kyle Larson kicked off the season by topping the speed chart in opening practice with a lap time of 45.148 seconds at 199.344 mph. He ran 24 laps during the session. Kasey Kahne ran the second fastest lap, followed by Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard and Carl Edwards.

Although Kahne was second fastest on the speed chart, he had the best 10 consecutive lap average with an average speed of 196.737 mph. Kahne’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second with an average speed of 196.647 mph. Carl Edwards rounded out the top-three with an average speed of 196,524 mph.

Final Practice

In final practice, it was Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, who ran the fastest lap. He ran a lap of 45.242 seconds at 198.930 mph. Throughout the final session, Hamlin only ran six laps. HScott Motorsports’ Clint Bowyer was second fastest. Third, was Aric Almirola, and rounding out the top-five was Kevin Harvick and his Stewart-Haas Racing teammate, Kurt Busch.

Kevin Harvick had the best 10 consecutive lap average with an average speed of 193.828 mph. Brian Vickers, interim replacement for Tony Stewart was second with an average speed of 193.742 mph. Danica Patrick was third with an average speed of 193.715 mph.

Starting Lineup:

Prior to practice, there was a drawing for qualifying. Winning the pole for Saturday night’s Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway was  Jimmie Johnson. Brad Keselowski will start second, and AJ Allmendinger, Kyle Larson and Ryan Newman will round out the top-five.

The Sprint Unlimited will broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and NASCAR on SIRIUS XM Radio at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
