David Ragan to Drive BK Racing’s No. 23 Toyota in 2016by Kyle Pokrefky January 25, 2016 0 comments
Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner David Ragan has unveiled his plans for the 2016 season – officially announcing he will drive for BK Racing full-time in 2016.
Ragan, a veteran of 326 starts in Cup, will pilot the team’s No. 23 Toyota this season with primary sponsorship to be provided by Dr. Pepper for multiple races with additional sponsors to be announced at a later date.
The announcement comes just hours after BK Racing’s declaration that 2015 rookie Matt DiBenedetto will return to the team full-time in the No. 83 Toyota.
“I’m happy to be part of something that has so much growth potential,” Ragan said. “Ron [Devine, team owner] has steadily built his program over the last five years.
“He’s made an even great commitment in 2016 with new cars, equipment, and additional personnel.
“I feel that we’ll be in a position to bring the team to the next level. I’m looking forward to the season.”
Ragan’s move to the BK organization will help provide guidance for the relatively young team with the decade plus of national series experience he brings to the team, says team owner Devine.
“We’re very excited to have a driver of David’s caliber join our team,” Devine stated. “In addition to being a race winner, I feel that his input and leadership qualities will benefit the team on many levels.
“Our entire organization is energized to work with him.”
Ragan is coming off of a season spent with Front Row Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing in which he finished 27th in the points standings with a best race finish of fifth coming at Martinsville Speedway in the spring.
The Unadilla, Ga. native has a best points finish of 13th from 2008 and has 15 career top-fives and 36 career top-10s to go with his two Sprint Cup race victories.
