Tommy Baldwin Racing announced on Thursday afternoon that it has parted ways with driver Alex Bowman five weeks ahead of this year’s Daytona 500.

Bowman, 22, was the full-time driver for TBR’s No. 7 Chevrolet for the entirety of the 2015 campaign, his sophomore season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

In 2015, Bowman wheeled the No. 7 car to a 36th-place finish in the owners standings with Bowman finishing 33rd in the drivers standings.

Bowman brought the No. 7 car home with a best race finish of 20th recorded in both Bristol and Dover’s respective spring races.

TBR owner Tommy Baldwin cited the changing business landscape in NASCAR as the motivation for releasing the second-year driver from Tucson, Ariz.

“As NASCAR transitions to different business and competition models, teams have to make decisions accordingly,” Baldwin said in a team release. “We appreciate what Alex contributed during 2015 and wish him the best in the future.”

The prospect of the introduction of a new charter system with guaranteed spots on a race grid for various teams has already made its impact on driver rosters entering the 2016 season.

Landon Cassill – driver of Hillman Racing’s No. 40 Chevrolet – stated on Wednesday that his move to Front Row Motorsports comes after realizing he’d be left without a ride if the charter system were to be implemented.

Further news regarding Tommy Baldwin Racing’s full driver and sponsor lineup and any further plans for Bowman this year are expected at a later date.

Taking to Twitter following the announcement of the dissolution of his ride, Bowman stated that he is to focus on his partial XFINITY Series schedule with JR Motorsports at this time and thanked TBR with for the opportunity.

@AlexBRacing: Just want to thank everybody @TBR_Racing. Looking forward to focusing on winning races for @JRMotorsports @TeamHendrick & @TeamChevy

Bowman competed in two races for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2014 and in one race for the team in the Camping World Truck Series last year.
