Denny Hamlin Claims Ford EcoBoost 400 Pole

Denny Hamlin took the Coors Light Pole Award for the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday afternoon and will lead a 43-car field to the green on Sunday.

Hamlin’s lap time of 30.568 seconds was quick enough for the driver of the No. 11 FedEx Ground Toyota to score his 23rd career pole position and his third of the season.

Joey Logano qualified second for Sunday’s race as Hamlin’s teammate and championship contender Kyle Busch qualified in the third position.

Ryan Newman will start Sunday’s race from the fourth position as Jeff Gordon, another championship contender, will start¬†from the fifth position in what will be his final race in the Sprint Cup Series.

Ryan Blaney, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Austin Dillon will round out the top-10 for Sunday’s starting grid.

Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick were the two title contenders to qualify outside of the top-10 as Truex Jr. will start Sunday’s race from the 11th position while Harvick will start from 13th.

Harvick was the fastest driver in Q1 with a lap of 30.363 seconds while Logano was fastest in Q2 with a time of 30.519.

Hamlin turned in the 12th-fastest lap in Q1 and the fourth-fastest time in Q2.

Jeb Burton and Reed Sorenson were the two drivers to fail to qualify for Sunday’s season finale.

Up next for the Sprint Cup Series will be two practice sessions on Saturday with the season finale scheduled for a 3:00 p.m ET start time on Sunday.
