Brad Keselowski Leads Early Charge in Texas, Leads Practice

Brad Keselowski kicked off the AAA Texas 500 race weekend by taking the top spot on the scoring pylon in first practice for Sunday’s 334-lap race.

Keselowski completed a lap of 27.403 seconds to claim the title of fastest driver of the 85-minute session by 89 thousandths of a second over second-place Kevin Harvick’s lap of 27.492 seconds.

Carl Edwards, Kyle Larson and Joey Logano rounded out the top-five while Jamie McMurray, Ryan Blaney, Erik Jones, Greg Biffle and Kurt Busch respectively completed the top-10.

Jones is entered for the race weekend in the No. 20 DeWalt Toyota as a substitute for the suspended Matt Kenseth, who will be sitting out of both Texas and Phoenix Chase races.

Chase drivers to place outside of the top-10 of the speed chart were Kyle Busch in 11th, Jeff Gordon in 19th and Martin Truex Jr. in 20th.

No driver completed a run of 10 or more consecutive laps as qualifying pace was put to the test in the late morning session.

Completing the most laps in practice with 24 circuits to their credit were Larson and Ryan Preece, the 45rd-fastest driver.

Five drivers ran the fewest laps in practice with each driver respectively completing seven laps – Keselowski, Blaney, Austin Dillon, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Brian Scott.

Up next for the Sprint Cup garage is qualifying for the AAA Texas 500 at 6:45 p.m ET/5:45 p.m CT and will be broadcast live on NBCSN.
