John Wes Townley To Run Third MMM Car at Kansasby Kyle Pokrefky October 13, 2015 0 comments
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — For the first time in their history as a race organization, Mason Mitchell Motorsports will field three cars for a single event in the ARCA Racing Series as John Wes Townley will pilot a third entry for the team on Friday at Kansas Speedway.
Townley, a veteran of 45 races in ARCA, will drive for the team in a No. 88 Zaxby’s Chevrolet – completing the team’s weekend lineup that also features series regular Austin Wayne Self and team owner Mason Mitchell.
Townley, a recent winner in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, last raced in ARCA in 2014 – a year in which he attempted to run the full season with Venturini Motorsports.
The Watkinsville, Ga. native has one win in the series to his credit that came at Daytona International Speedway in 2013 with the Venturini organization.
Townley has had a wealth of experience at the mile-and-a-half speedway he’ll be racing at this week as he has four starts at the track with a best finish of third coming in 2013.
“I am really looking forward to being back behind the wheel of an ARCA car,” Townley said. “I have always enjoyed racing at Kansas. We always have excellent cars and always race very well.
“I feel like I have a little unfinished business there. I’ve had top-five finishes but the win has eluded me.”
The full-time driver in the Camping World Truck Series for Athenian Motorsports will seek to take advantage of the momentum his recent Truck win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has provided him into Friday’s race.
“Any time you come off of a win, it’s empowering and gives you confidence heading back to the track,” Townley stated. “You have to approach every weekend with the same mentality and that’s what I plan to do this weekend.
“I can’t thank Zaxby’s and Mason Mitchell Motorsports enough for the opportunity to be back racing in ARCA this weekend.”
