Hendrick Motorsports Tops Saturday’s Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 Practice Sessions

RIDGEWAY, Va. – On Saturday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway, Dale Earnhardt Jr. paced the second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice session, while his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Jimmie Johnson topped the speed chart in final practice.

Earnhardt Jr.’s fast lap during second practice was 19.522 seconds at 96.998 mph. Earnhardt Jr. is the defending race winner. Martin Truex Jr. clocked the second fastest lap, followed by Ryan Newman, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin.

Tony Stewart who ran the eighth fastest lap slapped the wall late in the session. With heavy right rear damage, the Stewart-Haas Racing No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobile 1 Chevrolet team was forced to unload the backup car.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. also had the best 10 consecutive lap average throughout the session. His average speed was 96.470 mph. Kyle Busch was second with an average speed of 96.282 seconds, followed by Jimmie Johnson in third with an average speed of 96.258 mph.

In final practice, Jimmie Johnson topped the session with a lap of 19.500 seconds at 97.108 mph. Johnson improved from ninth fastest in second practice. On Saturday afternoon, defending series champion, Kevin Harvick clocked the second fastest lap. Brad Keselowski was third, followed by Paul Menard and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounding out the top-five.

The Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 will broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 1:15 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
