Greg Biffle Tops Opening Bojangles’ Southern 500 Practice

DARLINGTON, S.C. — Greg Biffle led the way in opening practice for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Friday afternoon, turning in a lap of 27.909 seconds in his Ortho Ford.

Biffle, a two-time Darlington winner, paced opening practice ahead of a Stewart-Haas Racing trio of Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and then ahead of Carl Edwards, Paul Menard, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski.

As is usually the case at Darlington, several drivers got their chance to have an up-close and personal visit with the Lady in Black as the track handed Darlington stripes out – almost like candy at times.

Austin Dillon took the biggest hit of the wall early into the 115-minute session, pancaking the right side of his car hard into the wall coming off of Turn 2. Dillon’s crew chief, Slugger Labbe, and the No. 3 crew worked tirelessly to repair the car and have chosen to not go to a backup car.

Final practice for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m ET start and will be broadcast live on NBCSN.
