CONCORD, N.C. — Jimmie Johnson and sponsor Lowe’s will remain members of the Hendrick Motorsports organization for several more years to come as it was announced Monday morning both have reached contract extensions with the team.

Johnson, a Hendrick driver since a 2001 partial season, will remain with the team that has delivered him six Sprint Cup championships through the 2017 season.

Lowe’s, Johnson’s sponsor since said 2001 season, will stay on as Johnson’s sponsor through his contract extension through the 2017 campaign.

“My relationship with Lowe’s and Hendrick Motorsports means so much,” Johnson said. “To me, this just reinforces how committed Lowe’s is to our sport and to our partnership. It says a lot to have one sponsor and one team for this amount of time.

“I couldn’t be prouder to represent everyone at Lowe’s and Hendrick Motorsports. This is my home, and I’m looking forward to many more victories together as a team.”

Tom Lamb, chief marketing officer for Lowe’s, spoke about the value that the longtime partnership with Johnson and Hendrick has brought to his brand over the years.

“Lowe’s has a longstanding history with NASCAR and knows its fans are some of the most loyal in all of sports,” Lamb stated. “Our partnership with Jimmie and Hendrick Motorsports has been an amazing ride as we chase history, and more than 265,000 Lowe’s employees are proud to be part of such a legacy.”

With re-signed crew chief Chad Knaus (who will remain the No. 48 team’s crew chief through 2018), Johnson prepares for his 12th Chase bid with a chance to score a record-tying seventh series championship by year’s end.

This year alone, the Johnson/Knaus/Lowe’s partnership has scored four race victories (Atlanta, Texas, Kansas and Dover), eleven top-fives, seventeen top-tens and enters this year’s Chase as the first seed.
