Daniel Suarez Scores Third XFINITY Pole of the Season

SPARTA, Ky. — Joe Gibbs Racing’s Daniel Suarez clicked off a lap of 30.024 seconds in qualifying for the VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300 at Kentucky Speedway to claim his third Coors Light Pole Award of the season in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.

Suarez, 23, took his first pole award in eight races in his No. 18 ARRIS Toyota, taking the top spot in qualifying over Brian Scott, Regan Smith, Ty Dillon, Ryan Blaney, Brendan Gaughan, Jeremy Clements, Chase Elliott, Chris Buescher and Drew Herring.

Herring was serving as the substitute driver of the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota for Erik Jones, who raced earlier today at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and is presently en route to Kentucky.

Suarez, a contender for the series’s Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors, was also the fastest driver in Q2 with a lap of 30.102 seconds. Scott took the top spot on the scoring pylon in the opening qualifying round with a lap of 30.125 seconds.

Drivers finding themselves eliminated from pole contention after Q1 included Cale Conley, Ryan Sieg, Dylan Kwasniewski, Harrison Rhodes and David Starr, among others.

J.J. Yeley, Darrell Wallace Jr., Ben Rhodes, Matt Tifft, Brennan Poole, Ryan Reed and Dylan Lupton were among the drivers to be eliminated following Q2.

Mario Gosselin was the only driver to be sent home from Kentucky following qualifying.
