CONCORD, N.C. — When sponsorship has allowed for it, defending ARCA Racing Series champion Mason Mitchell has made select starts in a second car for his homegrown operation, Mason Mitchell Motorsports.

This upcoming Saturday at Berlin Raceway, Mitchell will return to ARCA competition – however, not for his own race team, but with Venturini Motorsports.

The 21-year-old out of West Des Moines, Iowa will make his fourth career ARCA Berlin start in Venturini’s No. 55 Toyota with sponsorship being provided for the weekend by J&S AG Services.

In three prior starts at Berlin, Mitchell has two top-five and three top-10 finishes with a best finish of fifth coming in his 2012 and 2013 efforts.

The defending series champion is coming off of the heels of his second career ARCA victory at his hometown track of Iowa Speedway on July 17th.

“My plan at the beginning of the season was to mainly concentrate on the development of the No. 98 team, but also drive in as many races as sponsorship would allow,” Mitchell said. “We’ve had a lot of success across the board as a team this year. When the sponsorship for Berlin presented itself I wanted to keep the focus on the No. 98.

“I felt the best way to do this was seek out an opportunity – and VMS had an opening for Berlin. The Venturini group has been stiff competition for years, but also a team I respect and know would represent my sponsor well in this type of situation.”

Faced with the fact that he’ll be competing against his driver, Austin Wayne Self, for a different team, Mitchell says this weekend will be no different to any other weekend where he competed against Self in his No. 78 self-owned car.

“We’ve built a strong team with great people within the organization,” Mitchell said. “This is really no different than me racing against the 98 when I’m in our second car – I’ll just have a different number this week. We’ll both race each other hard – Self is a great driver and gaining more experience and success every day. I’m looking forward to the weekend.”
