Reed’s World: Ryan Reed Dominates Scott 150by Kyle Pokrefky June 20, 2015 0 comments
JOLIET, Ill. — Making his first ARCA Racing Series start in over two years, Ryan Reed dominated the field at Chicagoland Speedway to take his maiden series win in the Scott 150.
Filling the seat of the No. 58 Lira Motorsports Ford for the weekend in what was scheduled to be a one-race deal, Reed led a total of 70 laps en route to the checkered flag, finishing ahead of second-place driver Grant Enfinger by 6.293 seconds.
All the more impressive, he did it from coming from the rear of the field after getting into the wall during his qualifying run.
“Since we unloaded, Carlos [Lira] gave me a car that was really my job to mess up – which I tried to in qualifying,” Reed said post-race. “Luckily, it was good enough – we were able to overcome. All of the guys at Lira Motorsports did a great job. Thanks to Jack [Roush] for letting me drive this thing.
“My job was easy in this thing. From the moment I hopped in it, we put a little wedge in it and called it a day. We just kind of cruised. It was a lot of fun – it’s not often where you can get in a car that drives that good.”
A total of eight drivers completed the race on the lead lap with Will Kimmel, Matt Tifft, Frank Kimmel, Matt Kurzejewski, Josh Williams, Sarah Cornett-Ching, David Levine and Tom Hessert.
A total of five caution flags flew during the 100-lap event with the first two coming out within the first five laps due to solo spins by James Swanson and Tom Berte.
Trouble befell pole-sitter Cody Coughlin early in today’s race after a flat tire sent the driver of the No. 55 JEG’s Toyota around on Lap 13 with a second flat tire inflicting enough damage to send him to the garage on Lap 24.
The final caution of the day took out the second-place starter, Daniel Suarez, out of the race after his car erupted into flames on Lap 64 while heading into Turn 1. Suarez exited his No. 15 ARRIS Toyota unharmed and under his own power.
The ARCA Racing Series heads to Winchester Speedway next for the Herr’s Chase the Taste 200, the 11th of 20 races scheduled for the series this year.
