Joey Logano Outlasts Field to Win Thrilling Winn-Dixie 300

Talladega, Ala. — Joey Logano’s hot streak in the XFINITY Series continued at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday as the driver of the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford claimed his 24th series victory by winning the Winn-Dixie 300.

The now three-time 2015 winner made a slick pass on defending race winner Elliott Sadler with three laps to go shortly after what was the final restart of the race.

For Logano, Saturday afternoon’s Talladega win makes for the second of his XFINITY Series career at the 2.66-mile superspeedway.

“There’s never a Talladega win that comes easy or not intense at the end of the race,” Logano said. “You never know you’ve got it until the end, just like every other superspeedway race that we have…

“It’s cool to get our third win of the season right now. This is a pretty special season so far. I’ve had some really fast race cars and everyone is doing an awesome job. Tab Boyd, my spotter, once again on the superspeedways did an awesome job today giving me the information I needed to make decisions out there.”

Rolling across the finish line in the top-10 behind Logano’s No. 22 Ford were Brian Scott, Austin Dillon, J.J. Yeley, Joey Gase, Chris Buescher, Sadler, Ty Dillon, Regan Smith and Aric Almirola.

As expected at Talladega, several large wrecks occurred during the race with two multi-car melees bringing out the yellow flag for the respective third and sixth cautions of the race.

Lap 74 brought out the red flag for the first major wreck of the day as drivers John Wes Townley, Harrison Rhodes, Ryan Sieg, Ryan Reed, Daniel Suárez, Kenny Wallace and Brendan Gaughan, among others, were wrapped up in the melee.

Gaughan had a particularly scary incident on pit road as his No. 62 South Point Chevrolet collided with the pit wall, sending an unsecured tire and into crew members for Biagi DenBeste’s No. 98 Ford. One member of the No. 98 team’s pit crew was checked and released from the infield care center while a second was transferred to a local hospital for further evaluation.

A Lap 99 incident involving Ty Dillon, Blake Koch, Darrell Wallace Jr., Chad Boat, Kasey Kahne, Mark Thompson and Dakoda Armstrong on the frontstretch brought out the final caution of the day that set up the final restart of the race and Logano’s eventual move to the lead.

The XFINITY Series will receive a one-week break before jetting off to Iowa Speedway for May 17th’s 250-lap event.

Ty Dillon will take a nine-point lead over Buescher into the 10th race of the season and a 37-point lead over Wallace Jr. and defending series champion Chase Elliott.
