SALEM, In. — In the lone practice session of the weekend for the Federated Auto Parts 200 at Salem Speedway, Will Kimmel led the way with a lap of 17.260 seconds.

Kimmel completed a lap around his hometown track 68-thousandths of second-place driver Kyle Weatherman in this morning’s 30-minute session and ran just over a tenth faster than third-place driver Michael Lira.

Completing the top-10 of the session’s standings were Tom Hessert, Ken Schrader, Grant Enfinger, Dominic Ursetta, J.J. Haley, Clayton Weatherman and Austin Wayne Self.

Kyle Weatherman paced the field for a majority of the session and had a scary moment towards the end of practice as he spun his No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Ford out in between Turns 3 and 4.

Speaking to The Fourth Turn following practice, Weatherman says the bottom of his car made contact with the rough surface of the track and sent him into a wet patch and around.

“We hit the ground, we hit the race track there and it kind of shot us up there on the race track and we got in a wet part that hasn’t been dried up yet,” Weatherman said. “We kind of lost it there. Luckily, we kept it out of the wall there.

“We’ve got good guys behind me here that’ll fix it up and get ready for the race here. We’ll be in good shape here, we’re all good here.”

Brandon Jones’s streak of consecutive top-fives in the series may be in jeopardy in today’s 200-lap race as Jones’s No. 25 Ansell/Menards Toyota was unable to complete a flying lap in practice.

Multiple attempts were made to start the No. 25 car and make it roll under power to no avail.

With practice concluded for the Federated Auto Parts 200, all that remains for the 26-driver field is the 200-lap race itself, which will start at 2:15 p.m ET.
