LAS VEGAS — Four-time Kobalt 400 winner Jimmie Johnson led the way in an early morning practice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, putting the No. 48 at the top of the scoring pylon with a lap of 28.141 seconds.

Last week’s winner at Atlanta Motor Speedway was the only driver to eclipse a sub-28.2 second lap as Ryan Newman, the next fastest driver in practice, completed a lap of 28.455 seconds.

Rounding out the top-10 of the 55-minute session were Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Larson, and Matt Kenseth.

As this morning’s practice was utilized by each team to perfect their race setup, more drivers hit the track to make runs of 10 or more consecutive laps.

Harvick was the fastest driver across a 10-lap run with an average speed of 188.383 miles per hour during his run.

This morning’s session was interrupted with just minutes remaining as Aric Almirola looped his car around while at speed and managed to avoid hitting anything.

Final practice for the Kobalt 400 is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m PT and will run for 55 minutes. Practice will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1.
