RIDGEWAY, Va. – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series had their final two practice sessions of the STP 500 weekend on Saturday at Martinsville Speedway, and in the end, it was Denny Hamlin topping second practice and Kurt Busch pacing final practice.

Second Practice

Denny Hamlin set the fastest lap during Saturday’s second practice with a lap of 19.499 seconds at 97.113 mph. Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne were second, third and fourth respectively. Carl Edwards rounded out the top-five.

Jeff Gordon had the best 10 consecutive lap average of 96.261 mph. Jimmie Johnson was second with an average speed of 96.084, and Brad Keselowski was third with an average speed of 95.909 mph.

Final Practice

Kurt Busch paced final practice with a lap of 19.502 seconds at 97.098 mph. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon were second and third respectively. Denny Hamlin was fourth, and Ryan Newman who was fastest in first practice, finished out the final session in fifth.

Carl Edwards led the way with the best 10 consecutive lap average with an average speed of 95.941 mph. Kurt Busch was second with an average speed of 95.918 mph. Denny Hamlin rounded out the top-three with an average speed of 95.912 mph.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway will air live on FOX Sports 1 and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
