Joining the likes of Andretti Autosport and Barracuda Racing in Red Bull Global Rallycross later this year will be Chip Ganassi Racing, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The two-car operation housed in the team’s Concord, N.C. race shop will feature GRC regulars Steve Arpin and Brian Deegan, with Arpin running the full 12-race season and Deegan competing in a seven-race partial schedule.
Ganassi will field the Ford Fiesta ST rallycross car, in which both drivers have extensive experience throughout their GRC careers. Former Royal Purple Racing/OMSE 2 driver, Arpin will pilot the No. 00 ENEOS car, while Deegan will carry over the familiar No. 38 Rockstar Energy Drink scheme from Olsbergs MSE.
In a statement to GRC released on Wednesday afternoon, Arpin said that he “couldn’t be more thrilled” to pilot a Ganassi car in the team’s entrance to GRC, calling it “the opportunity of a lifetime.”
“Mr. Ganassi has set a high standard with the way he operates his race teams both on and off the race track,” Arpin added. “And just through the early stages of preparing for this season, it is easy to see why the organization has such long-lasting partnerships and why its employees wear the team’s logo with so much pride.”
Already fielding cars in IndyCar, NASCAR, and the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Ganassi branches into GRC with hopes of attracting the younger motorsports demographic that is characteristic of the series.
“As a fan of motorsports I’m particularly interested in the GRC cars, their horsepower levels and the absence of traction control,” Ganassi released in a statement to GRC. “But make no mistake about it, we are in this series to win — both on and off the race track.
“Also, GRC has proven to be a very innovative and fresh take on today’s motorsport product. The series is targeting a new demographic and aligns with ours, and more importantly, with our partners’ focus on connecting with Millennials.”
The entrance of Ganassi to GRC also aligns with the future goals of the young series entering its fifth season, as CEO Colin Dyne said in a statement that the team “has been an integral part of the motorsports landscape for the past 25 years.”
“We are proud to have them join Red Bull Global Rallycross for the 2015 season and look forward to racing with them for many years to come,” Dyne added.
The organization will begin its campaign in the series at the 2015 season opener in Tampa, Fla. on May 31, and both drivers have accepted invitations to compete at X Games Austin in June.
