KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Regan Smith will pilot the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet for a second straight week as he will race in place of the suspended Kurt Busch in the QuikTrip Folds of Honor 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This past weekend, Smith substituted for Busch and Stewart-Haas Racing on two days notice in Sunday’s Daytona 500, bringing home the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet with a 16th-place finish.

This weekend’s 325-lapper will mark Smith’s seventh Cup start at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In his previous six starts at the mile-and-a-half oval, Smith has two finishes of 14th as his best recorded result at the track that came in the spring of 2010 and the fall of 2012.

Sunday’s race at Atlanta is notable for being the first that will utilize the sixth-generation Sprint Cup car’s new intermediate track package that will feature lower downforce, lower horsepower, and a driver-adjustable track bar, among other features.

Smith, the current driver of the No. 7 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports in the XFINITY Series, will get his first taste of the new intermediate aero package in a NASCAR-sanctioned open test at Atlanta on Thursday to open the race weekend.

Stewart-Haas Racing has yet to announce an interim driver for the No. 41 Chevrolet for next week’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and for any subsequent races.
