DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In a practice session that boasted a grand total of five competitors in it, Kyle Larson posted the fastest time in fifth practice for the Daytona 500.

No, that is not a typo, in today’s afternoon 85-minute practice session, only five cars took to the track.

Larson’s lap of 46.705 seconds put the driver of the No. 42 Target Chevrolet to the top of the leaderboard over second-place driver Cole Whitt by nearly a half-second.

Behind Larson and Whitt on the speed chart were Michael Annett, J.J. Yeley, and Jeb Burton.

Today’s practice session was the only session made available to the Sprint Cup garage ahead of tonight’s Budweiser Duels.

The Duels will start at 7:00 p.m ET and will be shown live on FOX Sports 1.
