Hill, Sauter Quickest in Daytona Truck Practices

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Austin Hill and Johnny Sauter led the way in both practices for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’s NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday afternoon.

Hill, driving for Empire Racing, turned in a lap of 47.743 seconds in the first session of the day while ThorSport Racing’s Johnny Sauter paced the final session of the day with a lap of 47.215 seconds.

Hill’s quick lap was 23 thousandths of a second quicker than second-place driver Travis Kvapil’s lap of 47.766 seconds. Rounding out the top-10 of the first session’s standings were John Wes Townley, Matt Crafton, Ty Dillon, Scott Lagasse Jr., Daniel Hemric, Timothy Peters, James Buescher, and Matt Tifft.

In the second session of the day, Sauter’s fastest lap was 163 thousandths of a second faster than his ThorSport teammate Cameron Hayley’s lap. The ThorSport teammates both led the session ahead of Austin Theriault, Dillon, Spencer Gallagher, Cody Ware, Bryan Silas, Tyler Young, Joe Nemechek, and Daniel Suárez.

With the on-track action wrapped up for the day for the Camping World Truck Series, qualifying for the NextEra Energy Resources 250 will take place at 4:45 p.m ET tomorrow with the 100-lap race itself taking place at 7:30 p.m ET later that night.
