KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Stewart-Haas Racing have announced today that they will swap crew chiefs Tony Gibson and Daniel Knost between their No. 10 and No. 41 teams starting at the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in one week.

Gibson, the current crew chief for Danica Patrick’s No. 10 Chevrolet, will move to Kurt Busch and the No. 41 team while Knost will move over to the No. 10 team. The change will also send the respective road crews that worked under Gibson and Knost to the respective team that both crew chiefs will move to.

Gibson is expected to remain with the No. 41 team through 2015. The three-time race-winning crew chief announced on Saturday that he will remain with the Stewart-Haas organization through 2017.

Knost’s move to the No. 10 team has been announced as an interim move.

“We made this change to evaluate our program and to get a head start on 2015,” says SHR’s Vice President of Competition, Greg Zipadelli. “With the ban on testing next year, the last three races of this season take on even great importance. For Tony Gibson and Kurt, they’ll get three races together that will provide direction for next year. And for Daniel Knost and Danica, this is an opportunity for them [to] develop a rapport that could potentially continue into 2015.”

Through 32 races this season, Gibson has guided Patrick to three top-10 finishes (up from one in 2013) and he has Patrick sitting 27th in the drivers’ standings with four races remaining in the season.

Through the same number of races, Knost helped Busch qualify for this year’s Chase after winning at Martinsville earlier in the year. Busch failed to advance out of the Challenger Round after Dover and he presently sits 15th in the drivers’ standings with six top-five and nine top-10 finishes. This is Knost’s first year as a crew chief at the Sprint Cup level.
