Clint Bowyer And Kyle Busch Set The Pace On Friday At Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Clint Bowyer set the fastest lap during first practice, and Kyle Busch topped the speed chart in final practice at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday afternoon.

Clint Bowyer’s chart topping lap during first practice was a 47.788 second lap at 200.385 mph. Aric Almirola was second, followed by Jamie McMurray who won this particular event last year. Michael McDowell set the fourth fastest lap, and Travis Kvpail rounded out the top-five. The only drivers who are competing in the Contender Round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup that were inside the top-10 during the first practice session was Brad Keselowski in eighth and Kyle Busch in 10th.

Jamie McMurray had the best 10 consecutive lap average with an average speed of 196.586 mph. McMurray’s Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, Kyle Larson was second. Greg Biffle rounded out the top-three.

Only 21 cars hit the track during the final practice session. Kyle Busch’s lap that put him atop the speed chart was 49.056 seconds at 195.205 mph. Kyle Larson was second, and just behind him was Hendrick Motorsports’ Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon. Casey Mears rounded out the top-five.

Jeff Gordon, with an average speed of 187.556 mph had the best 10 consecutive lap average. His teammates Kasey Kahne and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were second and third respectively. They were the only drivers to run 10 consecutive laps in the final session.

Coors Light Pole Qualifying will take place after the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Saturday afternoon. Qualifying will be live on ESPNEWS at 4:40 p.m. ET. The GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway will be live on ESPN and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 19.
