RICHMOND, Va. — Chris Buescher and Ty Dillon were both the quickest drivers in both practices for Friday night’s Virginia529 College Savings 250 at the Richmond International Raceway.

Buescher led the first practice session at the three-quarter-mile short track with a lap of 22.498 seconds while Dillon led the final rain-shortened session with his lap of 22.765 seconds. Dillon, Chase Elliott, Jeff Green, and Landon Cassill would round out the top-five of the first practice session while Kyle Busch, Cale Conley, Elliott, and Scott would round out the top-five of the final session.

While the Nationwide Series field was able to complete the entirety of the one-hour first session on a dry course, rain would wash out the final 45 minutes of the final 90-minute session of the day. The torrential rains would drop onto the track and into the infield at such a rate that the garage area would become flooded – causing crews to respond by raising the cars on jacks to avoid taking in any water.

In the 105 minutes of practice that the Nationwide Series field were able to run, Dillon would be the most consistent driver throughout the day with his strong runs in both sessions. Five other drivers were able to post speeds within the top-10 of the speed chart of both sessions – Buescher, Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Dakoda Armstrong, and Dylan Kwasniewski.

The Sprint Cup drivers in the field would have a bit of trouble getting up to speed in both sessions. Kyle Larson would be the only driver running for Sprint Cup points to place in the top-10 of the first session while Busch and Kevin Harvick would be the only two Cup drivers to place in the top-10 of the final session’s speed chart.

If these practice speeds are anything to go off of, Elliott – the current championship leader – should have a good points haul at Richmond tomorrow night over his closest competitors for the title – Elliott Sadler and Regan Smith. Smith would run 18th-fastest in first practice and 15th-fastest time in final practice as Sadler would run 15th-fastest in first practice and 18th-fastest in final practice.

With the rain completely taking the track away, the Nationwide Series drivers are done with their on-track action for the day and will return to the track for qualifying tomorrow at 3:45 p.m EST ahead of the Virginia529 College Savings 250 taking place tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m EST.
