RICHMOND, Va. — Carl Edwards posted the fastest time in final practice for the Federated Auto Parts 400 with a lap time of 22.156 seconds set in the late stages of the 80-minute session.

Edwards would run his quick lap in qualifying trim as the end of the session drew near to claim the top spot on the speed chart over Brad Keselowski, Clint Bowyer, Jamie McMurray, and Jimmie Johnson. Edwards would best Keselowski’s time by four thousandths of a second in a session that would feature the top-nine drivers running within one tenth of a second off of Edwards’ time. Beyond Johnson – Jeff Gordon, Danica Patrick, Aric Almirola, Kyle Larson, and Greg Biffle would round out the top-10 on the speed chart.

Brian Vickers would be unable to replicate his first practice performance with his showing in final practice where he was scored 36th-fastest. Vickers and his No. 55 Aaron’s crew will have to go to a backup car for tonight’s qualifying and for tomorrow’s race after pancaking the wall early into the session. Vickers’ incident would be the only accident/spin to take place during the 80-minute session.

First practice session leader Kevin Harvick was shuffled back in the standings after the late flurry of teams running their cars in qualifying trim took to the track. Harvick would conclude final practice with the 14th-fastest lap time in his possession with a lap of 22.273 seconds – just over a tenth off of Edwards’ leading time.

As was the case in first practice, the four drivers who are fighting to make it into the Chase on points were in close proximity to each on the speed chart at the conclusion of practice. Bowyer led the way for the group with his lap of 22.179 seconds in third while Larson, Biffle, and Newman would bring up the rear of the group with the ninth, 10th, and 11th-quickest times, respectively.

Qualifying for the Federated Auto Parts 400 is scheduled to take place tonight at 5:45 p.m EST with ESPN2 broadcasting both rounds of qualifying.
