ALTON, Ohio. — Sam Hornish Jr. (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Justin Marks (Turner Scott Motorsports) found themselves at the top of the respective speed charts for the first and second practices for tomorrow’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Hornish would claim the title of being the fastest driver of the day with his lap of 85.346 seconds over second-place driver Regan Smith’s (JR Motorsports) lap of 85.920 seconds – a lap that was nearly six-tenths-of-a-second off of the driver of the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota’s time.

Marks would be just off of Hornish’s first session time with his final practice topping lap of 85.398 seconds. The driver of the No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet would beat Nationwide Series regular and Rookie of the Year candidate Chris Buescher (Roush-Fenway Racing) by five-thousandths-of-a-second in the closing moments of the day’s closing 90-minute practice session to claim the top spot.

Marks would lead the way for the road course ringers in terms of pace throughout the day. The closest ringer to Marks in terms of pace was Alex Tagliani (Team Penske), who ran the fourth-fastest time in opening practice and the seventh-fastest time in final practice. Kenny Habul (Joe Gibbs Racing) would run the ninth-fastest lap of the day’s opening practice session but would not appear in the top-10 of the day’s final session.

Across the two sessions, three caution flags would wave. In the first session, the yellow flag would briefly fly for Habul’s stopped No. 20 Sun Energy 1 Toyota in between Turns 8 and 9. In the final session, two cautions would fly – one for an off-track excursion by Roger Reuse (Mike Harmon Racing) between Turns 12 and 13 and one for a spin by Elliot Sadler (Joe Gibbs Racing) in Turn 11.
