NEWTON, Iowa. — Chase Pistone (Turner Scott Motorsports) and Brendan Gaughan (Richard Childress Racing) proved to be the fastest drivers in each respective Friday practice for the US Cellular 250 at the Iowa Speedway with their respective practice speeds.

Pistone ran a lap of 23.838 seconds in the first session to top the race weekend’s opening practice by .183 seconds over defending Iowa winner, Sam Hornish Jr. (Joe Gibbs Racing.) Gaughan ran a quick lap of 23.601 seconds in the second and final Friday session to top quick speeds by the debutant Josh Berry (JR Motorsports), the returning Kenny Wallace (RAB Racing), and the rookie Ryan Reed (Roush-Fenway Racing.)

If you averaged out the speeds between both practice sessions, Gaughan would appear to be have the quickest car of any of the 40 drivers entered into the field for tonight’s US Cellular 250. Most of the drivers who ran in the top-10 in the afternoon session would fail to crack the top-10 in the evening session. Pistone, Hornish, and Regan Smith (JR Motorsports) – the top-10 of the opening afternoon session – would run the 20th, 13th, and 15th-fastest speeds in final practice, respectively.

Roush-Fenway Racing were able to show off some speed in both sessions as the organization was able to place at least two of their drivers in the top-10 of each practice. Chris Buescher and Trevor Bayne would run the seventh and eighth-fastest times, respectively, in the morning session while all three RFR Fords would find their way into the top-10 in the evening with Reed leading the way with his lap of 23.699 seconds. Reed, Bayne, and Buescher would run fourth, fifth, and seventh-quickest, respectively, in the evening.

Bayne was the fastest amongst all Dash 4 Cash drivers with his repeat top-10s in both sessions. Smith would run quick early but fade as the sun began to set over the 7/8ths mile Iowa Speedway. Brian Scott (Richard Childress Racing) would run the 10th-fastest laps of both practice sessions while teammate Ty Dillon would fail to crack the top-10 in either session, running the 15th-fastest lap of the afternoon and the 17th-fastest lap of the evening.

With the Sprint Cup Series in Pocono this week, not all of the drivers entered for the US Cellular 250 and the GoBowling.com 400 at the Pocono Raceway had a chance to come to Iowa to practice their cars. Brad Keselowski (Team Penske) and Landon Cassill (JD Motorsports) were able to make it in time to practice their cars in the final session, however, Joe Nemechek (NEMCO-Jay Robinson Racing) and Josh Wise (The Motorsports Group) would be absent from both practices at Iowa. Josh Reaume would practice Nemechek’s No. 87 car while Matt Dibenedetto would practice Wise’s No. 40.
