NASCAR have announced today that they have levied a penalty against one team and issued a warning to another following Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at the Glen.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s No. 4 team has been issued a P3 penalty after NASCAR tagged the team for violating section 20-2.3 of the NASCAR rulebook for unapproved weights that were found inside of the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet. Section 20-2.3 of the NASCAR rulebook states…

A. Any weight added to the car must be bolted inside the body shell in an approved weight container and in a position acceptable to NASCAR officials.

Added weight must be in block form of not less than five pound blocks (no pellets) and painted white with the car number or team identification permanently legible on it.

As a result, crew chief Rodney Childers was fined $25,000 by the sanctioning body. Childers has not be placed on probation through the rest of the year. No points penalties were levied towards the No. 4 team in the owners’ standings or to driver Kevin Harvick in the drivers’ standings.

A warning was issued to the No. 98 Phil Parsons Racing team after NASCAR noticed a rules infraction during Friday’s on-track activity at Watkins Glen. NASCAR noted that the No. 98 team was adjusting the level of fuel in their car’s fuel tank in an improper location in the garage. This was found to be in violation of section 20-16.6 of the rulebook which states…

G. When adding or removing fuel to/from the car in the garage area, the car must be outside the garage structure.

No penalties were issued towards the No. 98 team, just a warning.
