MARNE, Mich. — Three days ahead of Saturday’s Federated Auto Parts 200 at the Berlin Raceway, Venturini Motorsports have announced that John Wes Townley will sit out the race as a precautionary measure after Townley was shaken up in an accident during qualifying for last week’s ModSpace 125 at Pocono.

Townley, the current fifth-place driver in the ARCA Racing Series’ drivers’ standings,  sat out of the ModSpace 125 and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ Pocono Mountains 150 after being evaluated and released from a local hospital and not receiving the ‘all clear’ from his team to participate in the weekend’s events. Venturini Motorsports announced early on Wednesday that the regular driver of the No. 15 Zaxby’s Toyota will sit out for his second consecutive ARCA race while former VMS full-time driver Brennan Poole would fill in for the sidelined Townley for Saturday’s 200-lap event.

Poole has 29 career starts in the ARCA Racing Series – all for Venturini Motorsports – with five total wins coming in the 2011-2013 seasons. The 23-year-old from The Woodlands, Texas, has one career start at Berlin that resulted in a ninth-place finish in 2012. Poole was also the substitute for Townley in Pocono last week, leading 31 of 50 laps on his way to a fourth-place finish.

Despite the circumstances surrounding him being in a VMS Toyota this week, Poole feels grateful for the opportunity to race for VMS and Zaxby’s this weekend.

“You never like to see any driver, especially your teammate, get shaken up in an accident,” Poole said in a statement. “I’m really glad John Wes is okay and this week will just give him additional time to rest before returning to the driver’s seat. I just want to thank Zaxby’s for giving me the opportunity to fill the role this weekend.”

Poole will prepare to be in action all day on Saturday at the Berlin Raceway while Townley will rest up for the following week’s SuperChevyStores.com 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds for VMS in the ARCA Racing Series and for the Careers for Veterans 200 at the Michigan International Speedway for Athenian Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series.
