Mitchell Conquers Chicagoland for First ARCA Racing Series Victory

(Joliet, I.L. July 19, 2014–)In the last six weeks Mason Mitchell and Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) had been close to victory lane finishing runner-up four times in the last six races, but Saturday afternoon the first-year team sealed the deal and earned their first win at Chicagoland.

“This is a dream come true” Mitchell said after picking up his first ARCA Racing Series win Saturday. “We really weren’t that good Friday in practice but these guys took a big swing at it. I can’t put this win into words yet. We have worked so hard for this since starting our own team in the offseason. I was pretty disappointed two weeks ago after Winchester but this makes up for that. I have to thank my family for continuing to stick by me and my racing career.”

Mitchell qualified the No. 98 Thermal Technology Services Inc. Ford in the ninth position Friday afternoon, after turning a lap of 31.894 or 169.311 MPH for the 11th race of the 2014 ARCA Racing Series season.

When the green flag waved on the Ansell ActivArmr 150 Mitchell quickly began moving through the field making a four-wide pass down the backstretch to move into the seventh position. After a lap 18 restart he quickly passed Cody Coughlin and Matt Tifft on the outside to move into the top-five for the first time.

Mitchell would surrender the fourth positon to make his first pit-stop under caution at lap 27 for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. The No. 98 crew sent Mitchell back to the track in the 13th position. It only took the sophomore driver six laps to move back inside the top-five at lap 35.

Mitchell continued to run in the fourth position until a late caution with 20 laps to go that would set up a sprint to the finish.

When the race resumed with 15 laps to go Mitchell quickly dispersed of Grant Enfinger and Matt Tifft and set his sights on leader Justin Boston. Mitchell tracked down Boston using a higher line and took the lead with six laps remaining.

Mitchell pulled away from Boston in the closing laps to take the checkered flag in in the Ansell ActivArmr 150 in his 35 ARCA Racing Series start. The win snaps a trend of second place finishes for the 20-year-old. Before the win Saturday, Mitchell finished second in four of the last six races. Mitchell led one time for six laps en-route to capturing the victory.

With the win Mitchell retakes the point lead for the second time this season from Grant Enfinger. Mitchell takes a 25 point lead heading into Friday evenings Scott Get Geared Up 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Arcaracing.com will feature live timing and scoring all weekend long from Lucas Oil Raceway. The race can be seen live on Fox Sports 1 Friday, July 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
