DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jamie McMurray topped the speed chart during the first practice session for the CokeZero 400 at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday afternoon.

Severe weather hindered the start of the practice session, but the cars finally hit the track at 5 p.m. for 45 minutes. There was only one caution around the 37 minute mark, and it was for debris.

Throughout the session, everyone kept an eye to the sky due to storm systems close by. That made for some very interesting practice tactics. At one point, a huge pack of cars pulled out onto the track, idled around and then pulled onto pit road. Frustrated with the games being played, Tony Stewart passed everyone on pit road and flew onto the track. He was warned by NASCAR for merging too quickly.

There were 18 cars that clocked speeds over 200 mph. However, it was the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates pair consisting of Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson that led the way.

Weather has cancelled second practice for today.
