JOLIET, Ill. — For the third week in a row, Brian Scott (Richard Childress Racing) found himself on top of the scoring pylon at the end of a first practice session for a Nationwide Series event.

Scott ran a lap of 31.249 seconds to claim the title of quickest driver of the session. Following him in the top-five were Chris Buescher (Roush-Fenway Racing), Chase Elliott (JR Motorsports), Brendan Gaughan (Richard Childress Racing), and Kyle Larson (Turner Scott Motorsports.) Buescher, Elliott, and Gaughan were the only drivers to get within one-tenth of Scott’s session-leading lap. The three drivers ran laps of 31.282, 31.292, and 31.333 seconds, respectively.

If these first practice speeds under sunlight carry over to this evening’s 90-minute practice beginning at 5:30 p.m CT, Richard Childress Racing may be the team to beat in qualifying and in the race tomorrow. All four RCR drivers placed in the top-11 with Ty Dillon running the ninth-fastest time of the session and Cale Conley running the eleventh-fastest lap of the 50-minutes session.

Scott and Buescher were the quickest Dash 4 Cash drivers in the opening practice session for Saturday night’s EnjoyIllinois.com 300. Fellow Dash 4 Cash drivers Elliott Sadler (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Regan Smith (JR Motorsports) would run the 14th and 15th-quickest lap times of the session, respectively.

A total of 33 out of the 40 (the No. 13 JGL Racing entry was a scratch) cars entered for this weekend turned laps. Jamie Dick (Viva Motorsports) would fail to complete a single lap but would venture out on track while Conley would run the most laps with 27. Session leader Scott ran a grand total of five laps, his fastest lap coming on his second circuit of the 1.5-mile oval.
