WINCHESTER, Ind. — In his first career start in the ARCA Racing Series, Brandon Jones (Turner Scott Motorsports) earned his first career win in the series by taking the checkered flag for the Herr’s Chase the Taste 200 at the Winchester Speedway.

Jones won the 200-lap event on a last-lap, last-corner pass by applying the bump-and-run to Mason Mitchell (Mason Mitchell Motorsports), who was headed towards the start/finish line for what would have been his first career series win as well.

“I drove it in as hard as I could and luckily it stuck,” Jones said in victory lane. “I kind of got into him, which I hated to do.”

“I saw him [Ken Schrader] sort of drop back there early in the race. He was saving his tires. I kind of drove the tires off of mine. That really made a difference. After we put on tires, that’s what I tried to do.”

Schrader would lead at the drop of the green flag from the pole position. The green didn’t stay out for long as a first-lap caution flag flew for a three-car incident between Kyle Weatherman (Roulo Brothers Racing), Anderson Bowen (Cunningham Motorsports), and Justin Boston (Venturini Motorsports.) Weatherman and Bowen would retire early from their damage but Boston would soldier on to a third-place finish.

Once the green flag flew, Schrader, Mitchell, and Jones would trade the lead during the 93-lap green flag run that would eventually be interrupted by the spinning No. 6 Ford of Josh Williams (Williams Racing.) Mitchell would grab the lead on the restart from Schrader and would hold the lead until Lap 139 when Schrader would grab the lead once again.

Two cautions near the end of the race would set up a five lap dash to the finish between the three drivers and Boston. Mitchell would hold the lead for four laps and was on the verge of earning a hard-fought victory but would be nudged out of the way by the 17-year-old¬†Jones. Despite being bumped out of a win, Mitchell would gain ground on his main rival in the Drivers’ Championship, Grant Enfinger (Team BCR), who finished fifth.

The ARCA Racing Series’ next race will be at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois on Saturday, July 19th where the series will compete in the Ansell ActivArmr 150.
