Mooresville, N.C. June 11 2014 – Last weekend might have been Mason Mitchell’s most important weekend in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards finishing runner-up to Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Larson. The finish was Mitchell’s fourth runner-up in the last nine races.
This weekend Mitchell and Mason Mitchell Motorsports turn their attention to the fastest track on the ARCA schedule the Michigan International Speedway in pursuit of their first career victory.
“Last weekend was big for everyone at MMM to be able to contend with a Sprint Cup driver and finish second. We’re bringing the same car this weekend to Michigan, and look to seal the deal and pick up our first victory.”
“Michigan is a very fast track, since the repave a few years ago the groove is in the middle of the track and can be difficult to pass. Keeping track position is going to be key Friday.”
Mitchell at Michigan International Speedway: Mitchell has one prior start at MIS last June starting 5th and finishing 19th. Mitchell was running in the top-five when a flat tire ended his afternoon.
Pocono Review: Mitchell started from the fourth position and made an unscheduled pit-stop on lap 26 for a possible rear axle problem. Mitchell worked his way back inside the top-5 and made a daring pass on a restart with seven laps to go moving from seventh to second. He then battled Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Larson for the win and finished runner-up
Streaking: Since starting his own team for the 2014 ARCA Racing Season, Mitchell has earned seven top-10 finishes, four top-5 finishes, one pole (Toledo) and has an average finish of 5.0. Mitchell’s top-10 streak is now at 16 races dating back to last August at Pocono Raceway. Mitchell has also earned four runner-up finishes in the last nine races.
Chassis: Mitchell will pilot chassis No. 593 made its debut last weekend at Pocono Raceway qualifying fourth and finishing second. The chassis led seven laps in its debut.
