SONOMA, Calif. — The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West makes its ninth consecutive yearly trip to Sonoma Raceway this Saturday for the Carneros 200 – a 64-lap event.

One of the biggest storylines heading into Saturday’s race is the inclusion of four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regulars on the entry list. Austin Dillon, Michael Annett, Kyle Larson, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will join the K&N West regulars for the sixth round of the K&N West season. Since the re-introduction of the race to the series calendar, full-time Sprint Cup drivers have used the support race to the Sprint Cup Series’ Toyota Save Mart 350k as a method of learning the winding 10-turn course. Brian Vickers, Joey Logano, and David Gilliland (twice) all have won the Carneros 200 while running full-time in the Sprint Cup Series.

Seven of the drivers entered for Saturday’s race have had previous experience at Sonoma in a K&N car – Kelly Admiraal, Dylan Lupton, Thomas Martin, David Mayhew, Greg Pursley, Jack Sellers, and John Wood.

Mayhew may be on track for his third win of the season this weekend. The driver of the No. 17 MMI Services Chevrolet has been steadily improving at Sonoma, with a ninth-place finish in 2012 being backed up with a solid fourth-place run here last year. With Mayhew currently 18 points behind points leader Pursley, this season’s Stockton and Iowa winner is looking to improve even further on his finish here last year to close the points gap to Pursley.

Stopping the current points leader’s momentum, however, will prove to be no easy task.

Pursley has proven to be a consistent driver at Sonoma himself, but his last outing at the track resulted in a dismal 21st-place finish. Prior to that result, Pursley recorded two straight top-five finishes, a fourth and a third, in 2011 and 2012 – respectively. The Newhall, California native is on a hot streak in the K&N West Series and has opened his season with five straight top-five finishes. Pursley is also fresh off the heels of winning at Bakersfield one month ago.
