In just a few short hours the IMSA Tudor United SportsCars will take to the track for the annual running of the Rolex 24. Drivers from all over the world will do battle for 24 hours on the Daytona Road Course signaling the beginning of the 2014 racing season.

Sports car greats like Jan Magnussen, Scott Pruett and Boris Said will race along side NASCAR drivers AJ Allmendinger and Jamie McMurray and IndyCar drivers Justin Wilson. This year the Grand Am series and American LeMans have combined to form the IMSA Tudor United SportsCar Series. Four different classes will be racing instead of the usual two which should make for some amazing action.

The Rolex 24 is one of the largest, most prestegious events in sports car racing but more that it’s the first major full sized race car event of the year. If you can make it to this race you have made it through the winter off season. From here on out series will be starting their schedules and there will once again be racing somewhere every weekend.

Just three weeks from today stock cars will once again take to the asphalt for the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona and the 2014 NASCAR season will for all intents and purposes be underway. Of course the official start won’t be until the following weekend with the Daytona 500 but at this point we are just ready to watch some racing. Diehard stock car fans find other things to watch from December til February but nothing can take it’s place.

We have made it. The long cold winter is over. Starting today racing returns.
