JTG Daugherty Racing has announced that beginning in 2014, they and Richard Childress Racing have formed a technical alliance. The team will now utilize ECR Engines and engineering services during the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season beginning at Daytona.

JTG had been involved with Toyota Racing Development since 2008 when they went to the Cup Series with Marcos Ambrose.

“We certainly appreciate all the support that TRD (Toyota Racing Development) has provided to JTG Daugherty Racing for five years and we are great fans of their business model,” JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said.

In 2014, driver AJ Allmendinger will now pilot Chevrolet SS racecars for the single car operation out of Harrisburg, North Carolina.

“As a single-car team, we feel that aligning directly with a successful multi-car organization like Richard Childress Racing is what will work best for us in 2014.”

In five season of racing, Marcos Ambrose, Bobby Labonte and AJ Allmendinger have piloted the number 47 entry. Labonte delivered the team’s best finish at the 2011 Daytona 500 when he finished fourth that day.
Geschickter is looking forward to a fresh start with both Allmendinger and an RCR alliance in 2014.
