RCR Hit With Penalties After Martinsville

RCR Hit With Penalties After Martinsville

by October 31, 2013 0 comments

Following actions taken during the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway, the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team has been penalized by NASCAR.

The fiasco all started when Ty Dillon spun Kevin Harvick who was competing for NTS Motorsports in turn two on lap 189. The accident also involved Matt Crafton and Chase Elliott who had nowhere to go.

As Harvick and Dillon limped their trucks back around the track, the two drivers were constantly hitting and trying to spin each other. Once on pit road, the tempers boiled over, and that’s why NASCAR was forced to issue penalties.

Kevin Harvick pulled into the No. 3 pit stall to voice his displeasure, and he was greeted by some very angry crew members. One crew member went as far as throwing a sledgehammer at Harvick’s truck, while others talked with the driver through the window net.

Ty Dillon finished 22nd, and Kevin Harvick retired from the race to finish 30th.

As a result of the aggression on pit road, the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team was penalized for violating Section 12-1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing; throwing an object at a competitor’s race truck and Section 9-4A: The Crew Chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his/her Driver, Truck Owner and team members.

Crew chief Paul Richmond has been fined $100,000 and crew member Adam Brown has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR.
